ABOUT

Debbie Le Roux

Debbie Le Roux writes to explore the unseen forces that shape identity, love, loss, and renewal. Her work is rooted in a belief that words can make sense of what life unsettles — offering both anchor points and new horizons.

Raised in South Africa and now living in Australia, Debbie draws on landscapes of memory, resilience, and belonging. Her writing often returns to the questions that matter most: how we endure, how we transform, and how we find our way back to ourselves.

Debbie is a mother of two adult children who bring her great joy. She holds two master’s degrees, and brings to her work a lifelong passion for learning, art, and the quiet architecture of human experience. Through poetry and prose, she seeks to trace the tender cartographies that connect us — offering not easy answers, but hard-won grace. This is her first collection.

Pilcrow

It came mid-sentence, a hook of breath,
inked pause, a pivot in the margin of my life.
I marked the page, the breath-held hinge
where the story turned and I stood,
voice feathered with flint, lifting from marrow into air.
This was a reckoning etched in the marrow,
a fault line, long quiet, beginning to hum.
The insult didn’t wound, it summoned.
Dignity broke her silence – a lioness rising,
determination honed by generations,
eyes steady on the breach.
Each breath held the weight of women
who walked edges no map could name,
and crossed ruin without fracture.
I didn’t speak.

I stood and every bone bore witness.
